Mō te tūranga mahi | About the roles
We are looking for two experienced Senior Analysts and an Analyst to join our high performing Climate Strategy and Mitigation Policy teams, that sit within the Climate Business Group.
A main focus for both teams is leading the thinking and advice on New Zealand's second ever emissions reduction plan, which is due in 2024. This is hugely impactful and exciting work, where you will work across the Ministry, across agencies, iwi, business, local government and the academic and NGO communities.

Key areas of focus include:
  • Provide Ministers and other decision makers with high quality strategic advice on issues across the climate portfolio.
  • Contribute and lead deep, strategic work to deliver on long-term climate priorities, especially at the intersection between priority topics.
  • Provide shape, scope, challenge and a rapid perspective on new, emerging ideas.
  • Build strong links to others working on climate strategy across government and with external experts.
  • Shape the teams' function and outcomes.
As a Senior, you will have opportunities to provide leadership for a wide range of projects and mentor junior members of the team to build capability.
As an Analyst, you will support one or more key projects, and have the opportunity to contribute to key pieces of work in a team environment. You will be supported by highly skilled senior members of the team who will share their expertise to broaden your policy skills to enable you to thrive in the role.
These are permanent roles, however, we are open to someone joining us on a fixed term or secondment basis.

Our ideal Senior Analyst candidates will bring:
  • experience providing high quality advice to Ministers and senior leaders
  • strong systems thinking capability
  • a good understanding of current environmental issues
  • exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • highly developed analytical, conceptual and creative thinking skills
  • a collaborative approach, strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to quickly build credibility and trust across diverse groups
  • enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
  • comfortable dealing with ambiguity and complexity
  • commitment to developing your cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori.
As an Analyst, you may have:
  • proven policy development and implementation experience
  • experience working with technical evidence and data to inform policy
  • ability to set priorities and to achieve deadlines and programme outputs
  • a desire to influence and think creatively to achieve results
  • excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), at all levels
  • commitment to further developing your cultural capability and capacity in te ao Māori.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Analyst - $77,280 to $93,565 pa
Senior Analyst - $105,802 to $128,424 pa
Appointment within the range will be based on skills and experience.
