Position Information
Bowen Public School is known for a strong collaborative and inclusive culture. The school has 253 students and serves a diverse population within East Orange. Fifty percent of students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and two percent are from language backgrounds other than English. The school has fourteen classes, made up of ten mainstream classes K-6, and four support classes Preschool to Year 6.
A culture of high expectations is embedded in the school and facilitates student growth. The core values of the school are emphasised through 'Positive Behaviour for Learning' (PBL), which focuses on the school's expectations: We Are Learners, We Are Respectful and We Are Safe. Student wellbeing practices are varied and developed through a strength-based approach that fosters student engagement. Diverse learning needs are supported through creating a safe, predictable learning environment, where staff nurture supportive, trusting relationships and challenge students to achieve outstanding personal growth through learning.
Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, mild intellectual disabilities and a range of physical and emotional behaviour needs.
2. Skills and expertise to foster adaptive practice and lead staff in data analysis and implementation of adjusted learning and behaviour support programs that meet the needs of preschool to year 6 students with additional learning and support needs.
3. Collaborative and consultative leadership with demonstrated ability to build a positive school culture of inclusion and lead school wide wellbeing practices to improve student engagement.
4. Demonstrate educational expertise as a leader of teaching and learning balanced with the complex responsibilities of an assistant principal role to effectively lead teams and support school management and improvement.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
