The Clinical Research Assistant (CRA) will be working on a clinical research study within the Hospital Elder Life Program at UnityPoint Health -Meriter Hospital. For this project, the position will conduct standardized data collection from patients 70 years of age and older, and their family care partners, during in-person and phone interviews. Interviews will include delirium assessments two times daily (including weekends) for the entire hospitalization, and extensive discharge interviews. One-month follow-up interviews with patients and family members will be conducted over the telephone.

The CRA will conduct medical record reviews at hospital discharge and at one month to collect key study outcomes. All data collected will be entered into RedCap database in a timely manner.

This position will participate in weekly standardization meetings via a virtual platform (e.g. Zoom) across sites run by the Data Core at the University of Michigan.

This position receives direct supervision and reports directly to the Data Core Project Manager and Principal Investigator. This position will also have functional supervision by the UnityPoint Health -Meriter Hospital HELP Supervisor.

This is a part-time, term-limited position, funded through PCORI (Patient Centered Outcomes Research Initiative) through February, 2029.

Required Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
  • Prior experience working in a health care organization
  • Ability to work a flexible weekly schedule, which will include weekends
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent attendance and strong work ethic in past settings
  • Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft applications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science
  • Experience working in a large, complex health care setting
  • Experience working with older patient populations and their families
  • Prior research experience involving human participants
  • Understanding of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of research policies and procedures
